Classroom Rules
When you enter our classroom, learning is fun and cooperation is expected. Our positive attitude and mutual respect are part of everything we do and say!
Our classroom will follow the school-wide B.E.S.T. Rules and Matrix. Please see the "B.E.S.T. Rules" tab for detailed Matrix for each specific area of the school.
B--I will be kind to others.
E--I will respect myself and others.
S--I will practice safe behaviors and respect the safety of others.
T--I will take care of my property and respect other's property.
Our classroom will have both consequences and rewards. In the first few weeks of school, the students will learn our "classroom character" expectations. Together we will create a classroom of children and adults with good character, and a learning environment where we feel safe. Parents will be contacted only if a behavior is being repeated. Parents will be contacted via Remind, daily planner, email, or phone call. I will not keep a child in from lunch recess for behavior, but the consequence for not showing good character will be as follows:
--First time=5 minutes off second recess
--Second time=10 minutes off second recess
--Third time=no second recess/contact parent and/or principal.
I rely heavily on parental support and trust. I want to develop a strong relationship between your child and I, with your support behind us.

Classroom Procedures
Here are some daily procedures that are important to keep our classroom running smoothly...
Lunch: please label your child's lunch box/bag with their first and last name. You may also want to include "2nd Grade, Mrs. Marek". When your child wants to purchase hot lunch and/or milk, please send their money in a sealed envelope or baggie with their first and last name AND "2nd Grade, Mrs. Marek". The lunch/milk prices can be found on our Dundee Schools website.
Healthy Snack/Water Bottle: please send a healthy snack and water bottle to school DAILY with your child. Students will be encouraged to bring "brain" food, vs "junk" food, and finger foods are the easiest. Your child will be allowed only clear liquid (water, flavored water, etc) in the classroom. I know mornings can be a rush...our brain food is very important!!
Specials/Recess: a specials schedule will be written in their planner each week. Please help your child plan accordingly for gym days. Also, we do go outside a majority of the school year. Watch the weather daily and help your child decide what to wear. Coats are expected for below 60 degree weather. Just a reminder...school policy states that for safety reasons, flip flops are not allowed. However, shoes with a strap on the heel are permitted.
Transportation: Please let me know at Open House, or the first day of school, how your child will be getting home for the school year. If your child's schedule should change, even for one day, I will need to be notified in writing or from the office. Bus changes will need to made through the office and/or transportation department.
"Treasure" Student: each child will have the opportunity to be our classroom Star Student for one week! I will contact you the week prior to your child's week with a letter explaining the things to do. Your child will also receive a "All About Me" poster to decorate about themselves. The posters will be laminated, unless you let me know otherwise.
Birthdays: we love celebrating birthdays! Be sure to send in your child's favorite treat, juice boxes are welcome too! We will sing, dance, and count down to their first bite! If your child's birthday falls on a day that we are not in school (or in summer), I will contact you for the perfect day to celebrate with their school friends. We do not ask parents to attend this celebration, because we will celebrate when it fits best in our schedule for the day, rather than a "set" time.
Parent Volunteers: Parent volunteers are welcome, and an important part of our classroom! I will need help behind the scenes (copies, cutting, etc) and right in the action (working with students one-on-one or in small groups). Once the year begins, I will know specific needs, and times, and will update the "Volunteers" tab.
Book Orders: based on participation, book orders will be sent home monthly. When ordering, please be sure to make checks payable to Scholastic rather than Dundee Schools. You may also send in cash, as long as it's the exact amount. During our school-wide book fairs, a book order will not be sent home.
Attendance: we will start our day promptly, so being to school on time is a priority. If your child is going to be absent for the day, please contact the elementary office. If your child is sick, remember to grab a doctor's slip so your child's absence is excused. If you know ahead of time that your child will be gone for more than one day, please contact me.
